Medical & Rehabilitation Services
Our rehabilitative team has long been recognized for its outstanding accomplishments and successes. When we admit a resident with rehabilitation needs, our multidisciplinary team compiles necessary information to formulate a therapy program specific to the individual, and initiates therapy plans upon the order of the resident’s attending physician. This team follows each individual closely, expects residents to show measurable gains within a reasonable length of time following Medicare guidelines (if on a skilled program), and holds staff and family conferences to update a resident’s level of performance and achievement. The therapy and rehabilitative team consists of the following disciplines:
Physical Therapy
The goal of physical therapy is to help a patient regain or attain his or her highest functioning level. A physical therapist, physical therapy assistant or a physical therapy aide, in conjunction with a physical therapist, provides the following services:
- Evaluation
- Testing, including: muscular strength/endurance and joint mobility
- Therapeutic modalities including: ultrasound, heat and cold treatments
- Prosthetic/orthotic training
- Therapeutic exercises
- Transfer and bed mobility programs
- Balance and gait training
- Community mobility assessment
- Family education and instruction
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy uses goal-directed activity to assist residents with regaining “activities of daily living,” often referred to as ADLs. A registered occupational therapist or a certified occupational therapist provides this therapy. Services and treatments may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Activities of daily living skills (ADL’s)
- Muscular strengthening and endurance training
- Range of motion (ROM)activities
- Coordination and balance exercises
- Fine motor skills
- Higher living skills assessment and teaching
- Caregiver teaching and training
- In-home visitations for adapting environment to increase safety and independence in ADLs
Speech Therapy
A certified Speech and Language Pathologist provides speech and swallowing therapy. Evaluation and therapy plan of care may include:
- Speech assessment and intervention
- Hearing
- Language disorders
- Recommendation for speech and hearing services
- Dysphagia management, for residents who have difficulty with swallowing
- Cognitive therapy
- Use of adaptive equipment to increase communication skills
